Get Home Safe

Strabane Community Safety Partnership Relaunches

“Get Home Safe” campaign

PRESS RELEASE

26/06/07

Strabane Community Safety Partnership will next week relaunch its “Get Home Safe” campaign aimed at young people in the district at a personal safety event for young people which will take place on Friday 6th June in the Alley arts centre from 2pm-4pm.

The purpose of the Get Home Safe campaign is to ensure that people go out and have a great time in Strabane district and return to their homes safely. The campaign is also aimed at help reducing the instances of alcohol related assault by encouraging people to think twice about how they get home at the end of their evening and encourage people to realise that they are responsible for their own actions.

The key messages of the campaign to young people are to

Plan Ahead-   do you know how you are getting home at the end of the night.

Drink Sensibly– if you drink alcohol, never drink on an empty stomach. Avoid Binge Drinking and don’t leave drinks unattended.

Be Streetsafe- Don’t wander off alone, avoid confrontations and walk away from a fight.

Never Drink and Drive- if you are out with a crowd designate a sober driver.

Cllr Tom Mc Bride said “ Strabane CSP feel it is important that this campaign is relaunched. The key messages within this campaign cannot be stressed often enough. The launch of this campaign will coincide with a personal safety event for young people were free personal alarms and advice will be given on the day. I would encourage as many young people to attend this event as possible.”
