Noise Control

Noise disturbance arises from a wide range of sources including noisy neighbours, barking dogs, entertainment premises and building work.
Officers will carry out an investigation on your behalf in order to attempt to resolve the problem.  This process will require the cooperation of the complainant in order that the required evidence can be obtained to enable the Council to take formal action should this be necessary.

There are legal controls over unreasonable noise, but no specific level is defined to establish a noise nuisance. Noise nuisance depends not only on the loudness and nature of the noise but also on how long it lasts, when it happens and the circumstances of the person who is disturbed.

Where the Council are satisfied that a noise nuisance exists, they will issue aNoise Abatement Notice. The noise maker may then be brought to court and fined if they do not comply. The person affected by the noise may take their own action by complaining directly to the Magistrates Court or can take civil action.
