A major project to get millions of people walking and cycling in Strabane came a step closer today as Sustrans’ Connect2 Lottery bid entered the ultimate stage of the Big Lottery Fund’s: The People’s £50 Million contest. The final shortlist was announced today and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and former minister Charles Clarke will lead the sustainable transport charity’s bid to transform local travel opportunities in Strabane and across the UK. Adam Hart Davies, Wayne Hemingway and Ken Livingstone are among other high-profile supporters.

Strabane District Council herald Strabane 2000’s pride of place assessment a success

Strabane District Council has hailed a visit from three judges from Co-operation Ireland’s Pride of Place award yesterday a success. Speaking after the event, Council Chairman, Councillor Gerald Foley stated: “Strabane District Council, through Strabane 2000, were pleased to host three judges from the Pride of Place Awards yesterday. They spent an afternoon with us while we outlined the progress that Strabane has made in recent years in its urban regeneration and infrastructural development programme”. HANSON MAKES THE CONNECTION IN STRABANE

Social Development Minister, David Hanson MP, today officially opened the latest phase of the continuing regeneration of Strabane town centre.
The Minister visited Main Street and the pedestrian link between John Wesley Street and Castle Street (Post Office Lane), which have benefited from an £579,000 environmental improvement scheme.
